Long Beach high school girls soccer coach receives national recognition

Long Beach high school’s lady Bearcats soccer coach Andee Wilburn was recently announced as one of the best eight coaches in the nation.

Wilburn joins seven other coaches as finalists for the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Coach of the Year award.

Those who are selected are recognized for not just their current season, but for their lifetime achievements. This is Wilburn’s 10th season as a head coach at Long Beach high school. Nine of which were spent with the boys soccer team where he won three consecutive state championships. This past season was his first season leading the girls team where they saw a major jump in wins and production.

WXXV Sports had the chance to speak with Wilburn on what it would be like to come home with the award and he said, “I mean I feel good with being a finalist and being in the top eight for the country this year .Just to show, you know, the hard work that my program has put in.”
