Long Beach city officials cut the ribbon on Gateway Project

LONG BEACH, Miss. (WXXV)- It’s been a big week in Long Beach as the city celebrated two major projects.

The focus is on the Long Beach Harbor, where phase one of the $4 million gateway project is complete. This connects the waterfront with the downtown area.

New lighting, landscaping, and parking spaces bring upgrades to the harbor.

The other big news is the reopening of the Jim Simpson Pier, closed since Hurricane Zeta destroyed the pier in 2020.

Harrison County worked with the city to put down flow through decking and add lights.

All of this is part of an effort to repair and reopen the Long Beach Harbor.
