Long Beach Celebrates Growth and History

This evening, the city of Long Beach celebrated not only how far the city has come in development over the past few years, but people gathered to celebrate its history as well.
A new mural was unveiled in the town green. It’s a portrait of the Skellie grocery store, which was the biggest attraction in downtown Long Beach back in 1949. The area has boomed since then and now apartments and shops line the area. “It’s really remarkable to see how these tenants have come to play a significant role in the re-development of Long Beach,” said Bill Legier, managing member of De La Tour Holdings, “Before we arrived, it was a vacant lot, and so I would say that Long Beach is thriving.”
The new mural is a rendition of an actual photograph taken of the Skellie grocery store so many years ago.
