Lockdown at Harrison Central High
Quite a scare for Harrison Central High School today after the school is placed on lockdown. This was due to reports of hearing gunshots near the area. The school was shut down briefly around lunch time as they called law enforcement to investigate.
School officials say they heard about five gunshots come from a wooded area near the southeast part of campus just before 1 p.m. Students were placed on lockdown for about 30 minutes while the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department investigated the area. No one was injured and deputies gave the all clear around 2 p.m.
Harrison Central High School Principal Averie Bush said, “Well, I feel really good because we responded adequately. We do monthly safety drills and trainings and things of that nature. Usually, it’s preparing for something that may happen. This time we heard something so let’s go ahead and practice what we preach and go into a lockdown and make sure everything is ok.”
Even with the all clear, plenty of parents still decided to take precaution and check their student out for the rest of the day.
