Lock Your Car Doors While Shopping
Many of us spend more money than we normally would throughout the year during the holiday season. While you’re out and about checking things off your list, be careful you’re not making yourself an easy target for theft.
Police tell News 25 car burglaries skyrocket during the holiday shopping season and most of them are crimes of opportunity. Burglars will simply troll the parking lot testing car handles to see if any happen to be open. If they are, stealing is that much easier. Sergeant Jackie Rhodes with Biloxi PD said, “We get so many packages, we just take them and throw them in the car and go back in. Don’t leave anything open and that can be seen in the car, put it in the trunk. There are people that go around this time of year looking to see what’s in cars. They’ll check them to see if the car is unlocked. We’ve had a lot of car burglaries where the car was left unlocked. Please, lock your car.”
Police also remind you to be attentive this holiday shopping season. If you feel someone is watching you or you’re being followed, contact mall security or your local law enforcement agency.
