Locals react to 2024 General Election results
With the presidential election in the rear-view mirror, many are voicing their opinions on the results. WXXV News 25’s Lucas Warren spoke with local residents about their feelings on the 2024 election.
“Well, I think it’s great he won. I was praying he would win to get us out of the slump we are in.”
Americans across the country voiced their opinions at the polls and decided that Donald Trump will become the 47th president of the United States.
The race was tightly contested so much so that News 25 spoke with residents of Gulfport and found that opinions on the results are mixed.
“Everybody’s going to think oh he lied he can’t get this done. But he will get a lot done and he will get it straightened out.”
“He doesn’t seem like he takes things very seriously. He acts like it’s a joke and it’s not.”
“We need somebody that’s going to help us in the country to make things better. It doesn’t matter what race or color you are we just need someone that’s going to help this country. That’s why I honestly think Donald Trump is going to help us.”
“Donald Trump to me has always been for the rich and make the rich richer and she (Kamala Harris) was helping the people to get a job and make money to support your family and that’s what America needs.”
Regardless of your feelings on the results, many are surprised of the manner in which Donald Trump won the presidential election.
“Pennsylvania, I was surprised. Georgia, I was really surprised I thought she had that but Trump won.”
“In a positive way, yes like I said, I had my doubts about Michigan and Wisconsin even Pennsylvania slightly. It seems like we’re in a position to win all of those states so it’s a great election.”
Now that Donald Trump has been elected many question his age as he is only a few months younger than Joe Biden when he took office in 2020.
“He still has all his facilities, so I’m not concerned at all.”
“Everything that he said about Biden and his age, it’s going to come back around.”
“Not at all, I’m 78 and I’m not senile. I got plenty of brains. I may not be as smart as other people but who knows what smart is.”
Though the race didn’t go in Kamala Harris’ favor, some residents are still holding out hope that she will become the first female president.
“I would like for her to stay on the docket because she’s not looking at race, she’s looking at the people period. Black, white, Japanese, Puerto Rican, it doesn’t matter.”
“Very inspirational to young black girls growing up. So, I would love to see her try again.”
