Local woman wins 100-mile Ultra Marathon

An Ocean Springs woman ran a 100-mile ultra marathon and finished first in the state in her category.

Amanda Ray competed in the Carl Touchstone Memorial Mississippi Trail Run this past weekend on the Longleaf Horse Trails in DeSoto National Forest.

Her 100 mile race kicked off at noon Friday and she endured 24 hours on the grueling trail course. She finished first amongst all female competitors.

For Amanda, running is not only beneficial to her spiritually, but she’s running for a cause. “Todd and I were talking one day and he was just always amazed with my running and said let’s turn this into a fundraiser. So, we started a GoFundMe to raise money for youth scholarships. The goal is $5000, and I’m right around $3000 right now.”
