LOCAL VOTERS REACHING OUT
This afternoon a public input meeting in Biloxi gave constituents a chance to discuss issues of concern regarding their elected state officials: senators roger wicker and Thad Cochran, and Congressman Stephen Palazzo.. Here’s News 25’s Hank Davis with more from the meeting
Two coast women have now put on two public input meetings, part of their mission to hold state elected officials accountable, namely Stephen Palazzo, the US representative for the 4th Congressional District Of Our Mississippi, who they say has refused to communicate with his constituents. At their first town hall meeting, many were dissatisfied over Palazzo’s refusal to show up.
“I spoke with an aid from congressman Palazzo’s office here on the gulf coast before that first town hall meeting back in February. Although I have received a statement from his team in Washington, I never had the opportunity to sit down for a meeting.”

The women behind these meetings had a little more luck that i did, in gaining an audience with the congressman.
“His team actually reached out to us, because we had been leaving voice mails, so we did we did schedule a meeting and we went and only had 25 minutes to speak to him about everything that we had to talk about. We were interrupted quite a bit while we were trying to talk and I could kind of tell that maybe he wasn’t taking us very seriously..”

But that won’t stop these ladies from trying to build a bridge of accountability between voters on the coast and the men working on their behalf in the capital, regardless of party or policy.
“We’ve tried to make it very clear that these are open to conservatives, they’re open to moderated they’re open to anyone down here that’s a constituent.”

Once again, questions collected from the crowd will be sent to the state representatives, along with a video of the meeting.
“I’m glad that you know.. He at least knows there’s some pressure for him to talk.”

“Even though most of the times we think differently, sometimes we might have shared concerns and how is he gonna know that if he doesn’t come talk to us.”
