Local Veteran & Service Dog Honored Nationally by VFW.

VFW #StillServing Campaign

Gulfport veteran– Michael Bowin– and his service dog “Doc”–  were recognized by the National Veterans of Foreign Wars “Still Serving Campaign” for his time serving his country and his community.

A 21-year U.S. Navy Veteran– Bowin– has continued to feel the call to serve after retiring from the military.
He and his Black English Lab– who is a registered therapy dog– have brought smiles and a calming presence to Biloxi VA medical center’s blind rehabilitation and mental health center, local hospitals and various assisted living residents.

Bowin said, “Actually I have been blessed that I have been given a help that really makes me feel like I am doing something worthwhile. You know, to walk into a hospital room and just see their spirits just lift up even when they are hurting and they are not feeling good.”

He is grateful for the improvement “Doc” has made in his life and in the lives of others.
