Every year the March for Life in Washington, D.C. draws in thousands of people from around the country. The march is held around the anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to legalize abortion.
Today, News 25’s Gina Tomlinson went to Pascagoula where a group of Catholic high school students were getting ready to leave for Washington.
The March for Life rally set for Friday is expected to have over 300,000 participants. Resurrection Catholic High School senior Katie Nguyen will be there, supporting the value of human life. She said, “Seeing all the people gathered together to march for this is such a beautiful experience.”
Nearly 50 students from Resurrection Catholic High School in Pascagoula are joining hundreds of buses on their way to take part in the 44th annual March for Life rally in Washington, D.C. Students tell News 25 the 20 hour bus ride will be worth an effort toward ending abortion. Senior Anna Hurley said, “I believe life begins at conception. A lot of people disagree with that, but God created every life for a reason.”
When doctors told Resurrection High School senior Sam Scarborough’s parents he had a good chance of being born with a birth defect, his parents decided on life. It backs Sam’s reason for taking part in the march. “I was lucky that they chose to keep me in a way, but that choice should always be an option.”
They’re joining the pro-life movement to send this message to the White House. Junior Shadderian Litt said, “To stand up for what’s right for my school, for my parents, as well as myself.”
Marchers will march down Constitution Avenue. Students say the protest isn’t just about abortion. “If you’re old, if you’re young, if you’re just a baby, all life matters. That’s what I stand for. That’s why I’m going to the march,” said Nguyen.
