Local softball team Sixers 16U wins World Series

One local fastpitch softball team is bringing home the hardware this weekend.

The Sixers 16U travel team from the Mississippi Gulf Coast won the U.S. Fastpitch Association World Series in Panama City Beach.

Girls on the team hail from D’Iberville, Gulfport, Ocean Springs, Pass Christian, St. Martin, and St. Patrick high schools.

Head Coach Ben Barnes, who got a cold Gatorade bath following the win, says the entire team represented their respective communities and the Gulf Coast region extremely well by bringing home the World Series championship out of 150 teams from all over the country.

Here’s the championship roster from the Sixers 16 U squad, plenty of local girls, starting with a half dozen from D’Iberville in alphabetical order: Layla Barnes, Jayden Holliman, Annah Nicely, Karley Rouse, Piper Rushing, and Maddix Smith.

Moving on with Gulfport’s Fairley Hall, Brooklyn Peterson out of Ocean Springs, Pass Christian’s Olivia Saucier, and St. Martin’s Alyssa Thompkins.

Finally, another trio from St. Patrick, those being Allee Bennett, Elizabeth Colson, and Brooklyn Mitchell.
