Local seventh grader collecting socks

With the holidays here, one local seventh grader has decided to help those in need.

Alicia Young began her sock drive in November to help supply socks this holiday season to children in need and the homeless. So far, hundreds of socks have been donated.

Alicia is partnering with Operation Homeless Hope and the Rock Foundation.

Alicia tells News 25 she got the idea from a sock drive she did when she was younger and wanted to make a difference this holiday season. “Right now with the sock drive I wanted to help kids, adults and the elderly, so we’re donating socks to the Rock Foundation and Operation Homeless Hope. We wanted to just help people out and at least get something to help them warm up.”

If you’d like to donate socks you can do so at Lynn Meadows, Bayou View Middle School, or Sugar Lily’s Boutique in Gulfport. Collection will go until next Tuesday, December 17th.
