Local reactions to Pope Leo XIV’s election

BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV)-South Mississippi Catholics are responding to the election of Pope Leo XIV.

It’s a historic Papal Election as the former Cardinal Robert Prevost is the first American-born pontiff.

The Pope is a Chicago native, but has spent much of his adult life in South America as an Augustinian missionary.

Prevost is the first Pope to take the name of Leo since Pope Leo XIII, who was elected all the way back in 1879.
