Local park in Ocean Springs vandalized with graffiti
Le Moyne Park in Ocean Springs was vandalized over the weekend, with vandals defacing several areas of the park.
Graffiti covered a large portion of the playset, with much of it unable to be shown on camera as the vandals spray painted racist symbols and hateful speech. Racist terms were also painted along the fence surrounding the park, which has since been replaced with new panels since the incident.
Officials believe it happened sometime Friday night and are still unaware of who is responsible. As for one local, Patricia, she expressed just how disappointing it is to see a local children’s park abused in such a way.
“It’s super unfortunate and its very inappropriate for children to have to come and see that and it makes you worried for anything else happening when the sun comes down.”
According to a few local residents, vandalism has taken place at the park before and with the suspects still unknown, Patricia expresses there remains a fear that this could turn in trend that affects more than just the park.
“You’re always worried that things like these will become a bigger problem. They start as something small and then you have to worry that if people aren’t held accountable and what could happen after that. My family has lived in this neighborhood for years and its not a worry you want to have.”
Officials are asking anyone with information regarding the vandalism to come forward.
