Local organizations distribute food to coastal families

Extend a Hand, Help a Friend is out feeding hundreds of locals once again.

The nonprofit teamed up with Morning Star Baptist Church and gave out bags of produce to families in need.

Dozens of volunteers made deliveries and loaded up cars, starting in Pearlington and finishing up in West Gulfport.

The event was made possible by the Mississippi Public Health Institute, Extend a Hand, Morning Star Baptist, and the Missionary Baptist State Convention.

Extend a Hand CEO Jeffrey Hullum III says this helps families through the holiday season. “Things of this nature are really impactful to the seniors already living on a fixed income, and also to working class families for whom income is not what it used to be. We just dropped off produce to a family. They were so joyous and happy because they were saying they didn’t know how they were going to make it to the end of the week, but they also have to think about how they’re going to get their kids gifts.”

Earlier this month, Extend a Hand also gave out food in Yazoo, Mississippi.
