Local organization plans events for Sexual Assault Awareness Month
One Biloxi organization wants to put a stop to sexual assault for good as Sexual Assault Awareness Month continues.
The Gulf Coast Center for Nonviolence is inviting the community to come and learn about preventative measures to stop sexual assault.
For the first time in the organization’s history, the non-profit will be holding a teal table talk – a town hall conversation discussing ways to decrease sexual assault along the Gulf Coast.
Additionally, the 12th Annual Walk a Mile In Her Shoes International Men’s March is coming up soon.
This is all aimed at educating the public on the dangers and warning signs of sexual assault.
“We want to do more things to curve sexual assault in our communities, we want people to know that alcohol is the number one date rape drug,” said Stephanie Piper, the sexual assault awareness manager. “We want people to know that there are predators out there looking for people on games. We want people to realize that sexual assault is not something that’s just going to go away if we wish it away”
The teal table talk will be held April 26 at the Gulf Coast Center for Nonviolence.
The Walk a Mile In Her Shoes March kicks off April 28 at 9 AM.
