Local nurse honored for 30 years of service
Thirty-years is not enough service for Nurse Ira Fay Tremmel at Merit Health Hospital in Biloxi.
Tremmel was surprised by family and friends on her work anniversary, thinking she was just taking pictures with her co-workers celebrating her 30-year mark with the hospital.
Tremmel was surprised by her friend and Mayor FoFo Gilich who declared August 3rd as Ira Fay Day.
The proclamation honors what he calls the highest level of professionalism at work. Tremmel currently serves as employee health nurse at Merit Health, but has served as an ER nurse and ER director.
She has won numerous awards and been recognized as superb nurse and excellent contributor all around the hospital. “I’ve just been so happy. I told my children, I said I don’t care if you’re a ditch digger, as long as your happy and doing it. I guess I knew I wanted to do in healthcare something and I fell in the right way, I guess. I like what I’m doing and so far, I’m not making major mistakes and as long as I do that I want to contribute.”
Tremmel does not plan to ever retire. She says she will volunteer once her time as a nurse comes to an end.
