Local group working to get bike paths along Highway 90
A local group is striving for a safer and healthier Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The Harrison County Active Living Initiative deals with side walks for pedestrians and bikers. For safety reasons, the group is hard at work to get a viable sidewalk, particularly along Highway 90.
Parts of the path in Pass Christian are three feet wide and slope back to the curbs of Highway 90 and have major holes along the way.
Dave Dennis, a member of the Active Living Initiative, says the project will attract tourism and enhance quality of life. “It is a quality of life issue. It is an attraction for the coast and certainly for Pass Christian and many other cities, so it’s a viable part of our community, and I like to ride a bike, I like to walk in the mornings and the afternoons and it’s a very interval part of most of the coastal communities.”
Many city leaders and organizations are working together to find ways to fund this project.
