Local designer Nadine Gentles heading to London Fashion Week
London Fashion Week kicks off Friday and one local designer will be there, showcasing her work.
Nadine Gentles owns Dorcas Couture in Biloxi and Gulfport. She started the business in 2015 in honor of her mom, the late Dorcas Elaine Gentles.
Nadine is leaving Wednesday to go to London to prepare for one of the biggest shows she’s ever done: London Fashion Week.
Gentles will showcase 15 pieces at the fashion show. The theme for her ‘Bloom’ collection is black and white with a subtle pop of color. “I’m so excited about it. The process of creating the garments and doing it was nerve wrecking at first to be honest. You want to show and tell a story, but you want to make sure you don’t have everything and the kitchen sink in your designs because when you are doing that you are brain mapping as well, putting stuff on canvas and knowing what you need to put in each garment to show what you want to show, but also tell the story you want to tell.”
Gentles moved to the Coast from Jamaica over 20 years ago and has had her work showcased in Mobile, New Orleans, and Georgia. She says she looks forward to taking on New York Fashion Week next year.
