Local Civil Activist turns 100-years-old

A local Civil Activist turned 100 years old today.

Surrounded by her family and friends at the Brookdale Senior Living in Biloxi, Miss Arleaner Washington celebrated the milestone birthday.

The City of Gulfport designated her birthday as Arleaner Washington Day in honor of her civil and community work. Washington helped form a Good Deeds program that helped establish a fire department, swimming pool, and a library in north Gulfport.

Miss Washington is a sibling to more than 12 children and has six children and many grandchildren. One thing her family says Miss Washington loves to do is grab her fishing pole and head to the pond with her love for fishing.
