Local church reacts to Texas shooting

Communities all over the country are mourning the heartbreaking loss of life that happened in Texas.
After the tragic shooting occurred in Texas on Sunday, local pastors are wanting to strengthen their churches.
Ricky Reece is the pastor of Nugent United Methodist Church in Gulfport. He says after seeing what happened in Texas, he’s considering the safety of his church family.
Reece tells News 25 there have been people wandering around in their parking lot before, searching through cars to vandalize, but it’s the shooting that spoke volumes to him. He wants people outside to guard the facility and watch for suspicious activity. “I think the big issue in the church or in the country is we need more of a change of heart than we do gun control or anything like that. Where our people have gotten so far away from God and so far away from what the world was meant to be like that we just wandered off the track and we need to come back and it’s all an issue of changing our hearts instead of changing our behavior and changing our gun laws.”
Reece explains he is thinking of setting up cameras or guards around the facility to keep his church safer and believes spreading the word of God to bring the world back together.
