Local Church Helping Homeless Vets
One local church is doing everything it can to help less fortunate veterans and now they need your help.
For the second year, First Missionary Baptist Church Handsboro will be hosting their Veterans Stand Down. Next Saturday, from 5 until 10, veterans will be met with a variety of services at their fingertips. Opportunities from everything from legal services to a free haircut will be available.
You can also help out by adopting a veteran for only $50. Veteran Stand Down organizer Robert Boone tells News 25, while the event is to help homeless veterans, they strive to help veterans in need outside of the traditional definition of homeless. “You don’t have a place of your own. You’re living with relatives. You’re living in your car. You’re living at the VA Center. You’re living at a retirement home and you don’t have access to all the services that you should have. You’ve served your country and now you’ve found yourself down on your luck.”
