Local church giving back to Gulfport PD with appreciation lunch during National Police Week

GULFPORT, Miss (WXXV)- Handsboro Baptist Church will open its doors to the Gulfport Police Department during National Police Week with a special police appreciation lunch on Wednesday, May 13.

The lunch, held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., is designed to give officers a chance to stop in, enjoy a home-cooked meal, and be thanked by the community. Police department employees are invited to come and go during the two-hour window. City administrators have also been invited to attend.

This year marks the 13th consecutive year the church has hosted the appreciation event. In addition to the meal, several third-grade students will participate by reading letters of thanks they have written to police officers.

The event will take place at the church’s campus at 1421 East Pass Road, across from Rouses, in Building 3 at the south end of the property.
