Local Business providing shelter for Milton evacuees and their pets

An animal sanctuary in Pearl River County is providing shelter for Hurricane Milton evacuees and the animals they would not leave behind.

Tracy Bulino with the Erin Regan Animal Sanctuary is helping nearly 20 Floridians and the 40 animals they brought to her farm.

Her social media post that was meant to spread the word did just that. More than 100,000 people saw it.

Bulino says people are usually forced to leave their animals behind when they evacuate. “In this area, Katrina really affected Pearl River County area, and a lot of people, it’s still very fresh in people’s minds, and they refer to it all the time. You always hear people commenting about it. So, when they see that a really, really wicked hurricane is coming in elsewhere, people want to jump at the opportunity to help when they can. Being that it’s not coming anywhere near us, and we have beautiful clear skies and amazing weather, it’s nice to be able to have the opportunity to help when normally we are prepping ourselves.”

The shelter will remain as an option for evacuees and their pets for about two weeks.
