Local Boy Scout builds convertible picnic table for Eagle Scout project
A local Boy Scout is helping his community on his path to the prestigious title of Eagle Scout.
Meet 16-year-old Matthew West of Troop 212 in Biloxi. This past weekend, Matthew worked on his Eagle Scout project, building two benches that convert into a picnic table.
The project is for his youth group at Cedar Lake United Methodist Church.
Matthew shares with us why he decided to tackle this project. “So, they needed, like, a table for their youth group and a hangout spot just to sit and talk outside because they’re usually indoors.”
Matthew’s father, Thomas West, said, “He loves to interact with other kids, loves to teach other scouts, the younger scouts. Watching him grow has been just a tremendous, proud moment for me.”
“I’d say it means, really, accomplishment. It’s something to say ‘hey, I did this. I’m proud of it.’”
Matthew says he plans to officially receive his Eagle Scout title in May. He will be a second-generation Eagle Scout in his family.
