Local basketball star Beverly Coleman donates to North Gulfport Middle School
This morning at North Gulfport Middle School, former student and local basketball star Beverly Coleman donated a check to the school’s athletic program.
She never forgot where she came from. Coleman was once a North Gulfport Middle School student and excellent basketball player. She was offered a scholarship and played at MGCCC and the University of South Alabama.
After college, Coleman went overseas to play in Germany, Spain, Greece, and Turkey. She earned her master’s degree and became a teacher and high school coach.
Today she’s co-written a book called ‘In Command,’ and chose to donate the proceeds to the middle school she once attended. “Anyone who went to North Gulfport has an opportunity to do the same thing, so I want to set the stage and set the standard for them to donate as well. We love our school; we love our community so it doesn’t hurt to give back. It doesn’t always have to be money. Come in, bring some books, come in and walk the halls just get through the principal and ask her what she needs and it can be provided.”
Coleman hopes her act of kindness will continue to inspire others to remember to give back to the community they came from.
