Local Bakery Impacted by Rising Prices

For many eggs are a daily part of our diet and have traditionally been a cheap way to make a meal.

However in the start of 2024 a carton of eggs cost $2.52 and in 2025 that same carton of eggs cost $4.15.

National Chains like Waffle House have announced a $0.50 surcharge per egg, but it’s not just effecting chains. Local businesses feel the inflation as well.

Quality Bakery, a staple in Gulfport since 1949, says they’ve reached a breaking point and they don’t know if things will get better.

For businesses like Quality Bakery prices have been growing steadily but with the addition of the bird flu limiting supplies it feels like everything has changed overnight.

Even though Quality Bakery has made it through many ups and downs in their 75 years of operation this may be the final straw.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says egg prices will continue to experience volatile month to month changes and expects a 20% price increase throughout the year so unfortunately this surcharge isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
