Lobbyist resigns after sexually insulting Harrison County supervisor

The lobbyist who used vulgar language to Harrison County Supervisor Beverly Martin is no longer working for the City of Gulfport or the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport.
Today, News 25’s Gina Tomlinson spoke with Martin who is still in shock over how the entire situation unfolded.
Harrison County Supervisor Beverly Martin has yet to receive a personal apology from the lobbyist who sexually insulted her during a reception last week in Jackson. “I’m still just at a loss for words on how to justify this. There just is none. There’s no justification.”
After the comment from Lobbyist Scott Levanway, his contract has been terminated with the City of Gulfport and officials say he has also resigned from the Gulfport-Biloxi Airport Authority. Martin tells News 25 she was introducing Levanway to an official when he asked her for oral sex. The inappropriate exchange was later exposed on Facebook. “I was just flabbergasted,” said Martin. “There was no previous conversation. There was no conversation afterwards. It was simply just those three words.”
After her Facebook post, Martin received a huge amount of support from the community, both men and women. “Real men don’t talk to people that way, and I know that. I worked with some outstanding men in my life.”
Levanway issued a public apology through our media partner, The Sun Herald, calling his comment totally unacceptable and intended as a joke. Levanway did not respond to News 25. “It was never my intention to cost him any kind of customers or clients.”
Martin chose to speak up about the situation, unfolding in the heat of sexual allegations being made across the nation. “This has just got to stop. It’s not okay to say these things. It’s never been okay, but it’s especially not okay in the year 2018.”
