L&N Depot in Ocean Springs under renovation

The L&N Depot in Ocean Springs is currently undergoing renovations to help preserve the historic site.

The building built in 1907 is the heart of Downtown Ocean Springs and houses a retail space, visitor center, and the Chamber of Commerce Main Street Tourism Bureau.

The depot is going through the first phase of renovations where new wood and a fresh coat of paint is being put on.

The depot is a designated landmark by the state so the city had to work with the Mississippi Department of Archives and History to find Spanish cedar which is the original wood used on the building. Ocean Springs Chamber-Main Street Executive Director Cynthia Sutton said, “It’s a historic building, one of the oldest in town and it has just needed a little bit of the love for the last few years. So, we are excited to actually be working with a group to actually restore the outside of the building back to, we are going to say, what it was. So, we are literally scrapping, painting, restoring the white and green paint just like it’s been for many, many years and kind of revitalizing this downtown historic building.”

The $30,000-$40,000 project will take about two more weeks to finish up.
