Livestock at the Jackson County Fair

The Jackson County Fair is in full swing, but one of the biggest events is still on the horizon.

At the Jackson County Fair, there’s plenty to keep you busy.

From the fair food offerings to all the bright lights and rides, you shouldn’t have any trouble keeping yourself entertained.

But one of the stars of the Jackson County Fair that doesn’t get as much attention is the livestock.

They have a wide variety of animals ranging from the classics like pigs and cows to some less than typical livestock you don’t see every day.

Jackson County Fair Association President Dawn Jones said, “We have livestock from all over Jackson County. We have different breeds like wagyu. You know some of the best beef around. We have some original Texas Longhorns that their DNA traces back to the conquistadors bringing them over from Spain. We even have some zebu’s which are basically miniature cows. They only get about four feet tall. People just look at them and say oh they’re my size.”

Don’t be scared because at the Jackson County Fair you can get up close and personal.

Later in the week is when the livestock officially steals the show because on Saturday, they’ll host their annual Livestock show and auction in the barn located on the fairgrounds. The show begins at 1 p.m. with the auction following immediately after.
