Lightning strike hits tree at Bayou Vista Golf Course

Here’s the aftermath of a tree struck by lightning Tuesday at Bayou Vista Golf Course.

The strike hit around 5 yesterday evening when the severe thunderstorms rolled through the Coast.

Gulfport fire crews responded to the scene. Jesse Vincent with Gulfport Fire Department said, “Three minutes away and lightning hit the pine tree. Came out earlier it was on fire this time we were putting out a little smoke. Pretty much gutted the whole tree, it might not have much life left to it.”

As the saying goes ‘when thunder roars, go indoors.’ Safe shelters include homes, offices, shopping centers, and hard-top vehicles with the windows rolled up.
