Lightning Starts Shed Fire

Local contractor, Terry Clark, is used to working through rough weather. But years of experience hadn’t prepared him for this.
“Right across the street and I was inside working and I came outside to see if it had stopped raining. And then when I looked across the street I seen smoke because about 10-15 minutes earlier we heard lightning strike a tree or we knew it was close somewhere. And that’s when I called 911”, said Clark.
Lightning had struck a tree and storage shed in the yard of a neighbor, Gerald Prince, who was not at home at the time.
When fire ignited to the house, Clark and coworkers sprang into action.
“When we opened the doors of the shed and the smoke started bellowing out. Yea it was quick, I mean I’m not a firefighter, but that’s a friend so we were there for him”, said Clark.
The Harrison County Fire Department was dispatched to the scene.
“Guys got here pretty quick and were able to get in there, find the source of the fire and extinguish it. No injuries, just terrible weather”, said Steve Moore, Assistant Harrison County Fire Chief.
“Me and the other coworkers we came out and ran to the shed and started pulling lawn mowers and gas out and everything else out because we knew eventually it was going to blow”, said Clark.
The homeowner didn’t want to speak on camera, but says he is grateful to everyone who risked their lives to save his home.
