Lighting issues force closure of fields at sports complex in Biloxi
Most fields at Popp’s Ferry Recreational Sports Complex in Biloxi are closed while the city works to correct lighting issues.
The soccer fields have been closed since February due to lighting and light pole issues.
However, there are daytime play fields that remain open just north from the dog park on Popp’s Ferry Road.
The light poles and fixtures that are around the park have been damaged by vandalism, nature, and old age, prompting the city to lock the gates.
The city is looking for options on replacing the light poles, wires, and light fixtures, and is going through different companies to see which one is the best option. City of Biloxi Public Affairs Manager Cecilia Dobbs Walton said, “The Popp’s Ferry Recreational Sports Complex Park is used all year long by so many people. We have the soccer fields. We have the pickleball court. We have the dog park. So, to close some of the fields, the city does not like doing that, but know that it is for safety reasons and know there are some fields still open. So, there are some options for people to come out to this area and play.”
No timeline to fix the fields has been set.
