Lighthouse Pier area project in Biloxi is a go
One of the most popular spots on Biloxi Beach will soon be getting a makeover.
Biloxi City Council members approved a $68,000 project aimed at dressing up the area south of Lighthouse Pier last night. The steel guard rail that lines the sidewalk will be removed to make way for beautification and safety improvements.
Tayler Shirey works at Life’s a Beach Jet Ski Rentals. He says the rail is an inconvenience for pedestrians and he’s excited for the project to begin. “They’re ugly and they get in the way. People have to climb over them and stuff. We’ll be much better without them. This is like the part of the beach that has the most hotel room for this part of the beach. There’s like 5,000 hotel rooms past the casino and this is the spot to stop. It sets the precedent for Biloxi Beach.”
The project is being paid for with tidelands funds and the city plans to get to work on the area in the next two to three weeks.
