Lighthouse and pavilion grand opening in Waveland

It’s been a long time coming for the City of Waveland and the $1.9 million lighthouse project. Today was the grand opening for the lighthouse and pavilion.

Waveland didn’t have a lighthouse before Hurricane Katrina. It was also the only city that didn’t have a bathroom facility on the beach. The entire cost was funded with Mississippi Tideland Funds and Seawall Tax funds. The project took about ten months to construct.

This new lighthouse and pavilion will attract more tourists to come check out the City of Waveland. Ward 1 Alderman Jeremy Burke said, “For years, people would just keep driving down the beach because until you see a bathroom, you are not going to stop with your family. Now that we are finally able to provide that that is something that is going to be a huge asset for Waveland.”

Waveland Mayor Mike Smith tells News 25 every time he drives by the new lighthouse and pavilion it puts a smile on his face knowing this dream from past administrations is finally complete.
