Lighted bike ride in Pass Christian
A Harrison County group lit up the road this evening in Pass Christian for a cause to help improve living on the Coast.
The Harrison County Active Living Initiative held a pop-up lighted bike ride starting in Henderson Park to bring awareness to their movement.
Currently, the group is working with the county to help implement a plant to accommodate pedestrians and bikers across South Mississippi.
The group’s goal is to eventually see walkable communities emerge out of all the cities on the Coast.
Harrison County Active Living Initiative Chair Cynthia Menton-Walker said, “We hope that those folks that are making the decision about do you just put a patch on that sidewalk or do you re-do that area. Find the money. Work together with other agencies to make that possible. Because right now we want to make sure they know this is something we all want.”
Head of Biking Fun Glenn Mueller said, “After this we’re all going to go down to ride and go eat at the restaurants. But the more we can make it bike-friendly then more tourism comes and more people can get out and about and do it safely without being so required to go by car. So, what’s happening is that we’re finding it helps businesses, it helps tourism, and it helps families. So, it’s a great thing. Biking is awesome.”
Another lighted bike ride is being planned for September 11th and the group hopes to make it the largest lighted bike ride in the state.
