Lifeguard shortage causing Biloxi pools to close early
The Biloxi Natatorium and Donal Snyder Community Center are struggling to keep their pools open due to a lifeguard shortage.
The staffing shortages have forced the parks and rec department to close the pools early or for the entire day.
There’s a nation-wide shortage of lifeguards and each pool needs at least two on duty to open.
Members should call the center before they come or check out the City of Biloxi’s Facebook page for a closure notice. Parks and Recreation Assistant Director Jamie Lee said, “We’re seeing probably 32,000 to 35,000 people a year use this facility. We want to do whatever we can to keep this facility and the other ones open. We’re doing everything we can. The last resort is to close the pool.”
The starting rates for lifeguards is $12.50. Schedules are flexible. Contact the City of Biloxi’s human resources department for more information.
