Life Flight lands at St. Martin High School

Every moment counts when it comes to saving a life. Life flights are critical when it comes to passengers in need of immediate medical attention. This was part of a special lesson shared by flight paramedics after landing at St. Martin High School this morning.
It was the sound of real life super heroes flying over St. Martin High School Friday, coming in for a landing to show students what it takes to save lives. Third grader Jaycee said, “Their jobs are really important because they have to help people get to the hospital.”
A group of third graders from St. Martin Elementary School had the chance to meet the crew of flight paramedics and get an inside look aboard the rescue aircraft. Third grader Micah said, “It was really awesome. It was really cool, like I got to see it in person. I’ve never seen a helicopter before.”
The experience was especially valuable for students in St. Martin High School’s med II class, like Harry Hall, who wants to be a heart surgeon. “I’ve never seen a flight nurse before and I always wanted to ask them questions about how they do their job and such.”
This was an opportunity for Hall and other students to get a better understanding about this particular career in the medical field. Flight Care Paramedic Kyle Carter said, “We wanted to show the kids who are interested in medicine what we do for a job, how we work on the helicopter with such confined spaces, and show them basically what it’s like on this side of medicine.”
Students say what really blew them away was the amount of equipment that can fit in one of the helicopters and the fact that the paramedics work 24 hour shifts. “Whether it be the youngest of the young that live on full normal lives or someone who that you really think never had a chance, but we got them where they needed to be, those things will always live with you,” said Carter.
