Leonard Nimoy Dies at Age 83
The man generations of television and movie fans knew as Mr. Spock has died.
Leonard Nimoy was 83 years old. He died early Friday from end stage COPD at his Los Angeles home. His role as the pointy-eared, logical science officer on the 60s TV series, Star Trek, made him popular around the world. Spock’s Vulcan salute and motto, live long and prosper, became a repeated gesture and phrase among the show’s fans. Many fans along the Gulf Coast remember his legacy.
Shane Alder, a Star Trek fan, says, “Gonna’ be very sad to know that we won’t ever get to see Spock ever again, but I think that he would have just wanted us to enjoy what he did put out there and he loved being Spock.”
Off screen, Nimoy was also an author, lifelong photographer, and a director.
