Legislators Work on Bill to Prevent Another SRHS Situation

Local legislators are working hard in Jackson to get a bill passed which would hopefully prevent another Singing River situation from happening again.

The bill, authored by the Jackson County Delegation, would make it a requirement for those administering public pensions to give notice of any changes to planned participants. This bill would apply to any company in the State of Mississippi who provides a public pension plan.

Representative Hank Zuber (R), District 113, says, “I honestly feel like if that requirement was in place, then there would’ve been some communication back and forth between the employees and the plan administrator and it could’ve been worked out instead of putting us in the situation that we’re in today.”

Representative Zuber also tells News 25 that Senator Brice Wiggins plans on filing the bill in the State Senate and is hopeful it will be passed.
