Learning Safety Skills at Fire Academy for Kids

School might be out, but safety is in for a group of kids learning skills they can use for life in Biloxi.
Children attending the fire department’s Fire Academy for kids are learning about first aid, CPR, how to dial 9-1-1, and what to do in case of a fire.
The program is going all week. Today the kids were practicing fire drills. Eight-year-old William Nail is enrolled in the fire academy. He tells News 25 what you should do if your house catches on fire. “If you’re in bed roll off the bed, put the back of your hand on the door and if it’s hot, find another way out of your room. Do not use that door if it’s hot. Find another way out of the room. If it’s cold, it’s okay. You can get down on your knees and start crawling to the nearest exit to get out of the house.”
The deputy chief of fire prevention says it’s important for kids in our community to start learning about safety at a young age. The Fire Academy for Kids will graduate this Friday.
