Lawmakers react to Governor Tate Reeves inaugural speech
Representatives from multiple districts throughout the state are in the capital for the inaugural events. News 25’s Brooke Parker talked to lawmakers to get their reaction to Governor Reeves’ remarks and joins us from Jackson.
U.S Congress District 4 Candidate Michael McGill said, “One of the main reasons for being here today is just to show support for Mississippi. We’re starting a new legislative session, and getting back involved. In the next four years, we’ve got a lot of growth we’ve already started. And to see Tate Reeves continue what he’s done, I think Mississippi is on the right path for great growth in this state.”
District 119 Representative Jeffrey Hulum said, “One of the things, I feel optimistic. The reason I feel optimistic is because he talks about inclusion, bringing everyone together. And understand that, for so long, we have been part of a divide in this state, and it’s time to start working together.”
District 20 Representative Rodney Hall said, “It’s important to hear the message of what we’re talking about for the direction of Mississippi. And so, what I really enjoyed about hearing Governor Reeves talk about is not only where we came from, but where we’re headed. Our future.”
Ocean Springs Ward 2 Alderman Rickey Authement said, “I think the biggest thing that I’m most passionate about is when he talked about keeping our kids in Mississippi. For a long time, Mississippi’s largest export has been our kids. Going to college and going off to other places. And keeping them here, retaining them here, I think, is really important.”
District 15 Representative Beth Luther Waldo said, “I also like the fact that our governor totally talked about bringing division out of our state, for us to work together.”
