Latest Details on Janaya Thompson Murder Trial

Today makes one year since 5-year-old Janaya Thompson of Gulfport went missing and her body was found the next day. It was a horrifying story that broke the hearts of the Gulf Coast community.
News 25’s Katarina Luketich joins us live with the latest details on her murder trial.
One year ago, the tragic story of Janaya’s murder touched our entire community, but where does her murder case stand today? The District Attorney’s office is still awaiting forensic evidence the FBI did on electronic equipment. Prosecutors tell News 25 this case will be seen by a grand jury in the near future.
Investigators maintain there were two men responsible for Janaya’s death. Alberto Julio Garcia has been charged with capital murder after admitting to police he sexually assaulted Janaya and later strangled her with a pair of socks. Another suspect, Julian Gray is being held on separate child pornography charges. Evidence could also convict him.
Chief Leonard Papania said, “By no means is this over. This process continues. We’ve got a great system. I’m excited about those that will be prosecuting this case and very confident in their work.
Crosby Parker, assistant district attorney for Harrison County, said “ In a case like this, it’s tough and it’s difficult to be patient but the forensic testing in this case is of the utmost importance to ensure that we get justice in the end. “
