COVID vaccine shipments to Singing River delayed due to winter storm

Last week icy roads in our state caused a delay in COVID vaccine shipments. Singing River Health System worked to get second dose vaccines in arms.

Vaccine allotments usually come in on Monday. Call lines open up and patients are able to schedule appointment times for their vaccine, but last week, vaccines didn’t arrive. Vaccination Hotline worker Alison Cooley said, “When we don’t have them, it’s really sad because we really want to help the community because it’s usually our older people in the community.”

Due to freezing roads across parts of Mississippi all COVID vaccine shipments were held in St. Louis to avoid being stuck in transit.

The good news is that no COVID vaccines were wasted. The shipment was simply put on hold until weather conditions allowed for a safe arrival. Singing River System Director of Pharmacy Lisa Fratesi tells News 25 although there was a delay, everything arrived in perfect condition. “We did have a week delay in our Pfizer shipment from last week. We received it this morning. We received them at the perfect temperature.”

Singing River’s goal is to vaccinate 1,000 people per week and they were still able to reach that goal. “We don’t want people to wait. We want people to have a good experience. We know that people are anxious to get this vaccine and we’re anxious to be able to provide it.”

To sign up for the vaccine from Singing River go on to their Facebook page in the next 48 hours for available appointments.
