Lady Greyhounds charge past Hernando 4-2 to keep State Championship hopes alive
The Ocean Springs Lady Greyhounds wasted no time making noise at the plate, exploding early when Senior outfielder Taylor Farra kicked things off with a deep shot to center field, bringing around junior third baseman Kerrigan Scott to score the game’s first run. The Greyhounds weren’t done yet. Senior ace Emma Franklin ripped a line drive straight up the middle, allowing senior shortstop K’Lee Gum to turn on the jets and cross home for run number two. Moments later, Farra showed off her speed, taking advantage of an overthrown ball to second and sliding home safely for the team’s third run of the inning. Ocean Springs capped the top of the first with a commanding 3–0 lead, setting the tone early in the contest.
Hernando battled back, plating one run in the second inning and another in the third to close the gap. But Franklin held firm in the circle, dealing heat and keeping the Lady Tigers scoreless in both the fourth and fifth innings.
In the sixth, the Greyhounds found the insurance they were looking for. Farra hit a sharp grounder that forced the Hernando shortstop off-line, and Gum beat the throw to second. Never slowing down, Scott rounded third and dashed home to notch the fourth Ocean Springs run of the afternoon.
With the game on the line, Hernando lifted one high into shallow left in their final at-bat—but Zori Terry was there to make the snag, sealing the victory.
The Ocean Springs Lady Greyhounds topped the Hernando Lady Tigers, 4–2, staying alive in the state championship bracket. They’ll be back on the field Friday afternoon at 2:30, ready to battle once again for the State Championship title. See you there, Greyhound Nation!
