La Pointe-Krebs Lime Burn Ceremony Thursday at Point Park in Pascagoula
The City of Pascagoula will have a variety of events going on this week regarding the La Pointe-Krebs House and Museum.
Around 1730, Hugo Krebs immigrated to the area and married Marie Josephine Simon De La Pointe. When her father passed away, Krebs inherited his father-in-law’s estate. He built the La Pointe-Krebs House in 1757.
The oldest structure in the state is still under renovations. However, there will be a lime burn ceremony taking place at Point Park Thursday at 4 p.m.
The lime burn will help create tabby and other substances that will be used on the house.
If you can’t make it to this event, you can always celebrate Hugo Krebs’ 357th birthday and rededication ceremony on Saturday. La Pointe-Krebs House and Museum Executive Director Matthew Powell said, “We’ve got a family driven event where we are going to actually have games for kids. They’ll also be able to have stations where they can learn how to make tabby and things like that. It’s going to be something for the whole community to be able to come out and enjoy.”
There’s no set time table for when the renovations on the house will be complete yet. However, you can take a tour of the home and check out the museum as well.
