Krewe of Wrecks rolls once again at St. Vincent De Paul School

St. Vincent De Paul School in Long Beach held their annual Krewe of Wrecks Parade today.

Every year at the school, the kindergarteners would either build a float or buy a float from a prior year and roll down the campus throwing beads and toys to their classmates in other grades.

This year, the parade featured about 46 floats. These floats all have to follow certain guidelines to be allowed to ride. The floats have to be a certain size and could not be motorized.

Special guests were also invited to ride, including the kings and queens of both the Carnival Association of Long Beach and the St. Paul Carnival Association. St. Vincent De Paul Principal Carol Church said, “Well obviously it’s a happy time. We are celebrating to both of the carnival organizations, St. Paul Carnival Association and the Carnival Association of Long Beach. They raise money to help us keep tuition affordable, and so each one of them have finished their season. They’ve had a great season, and so this is just a celebration to end and it gives everybody an opportunity to come together as a community.”

St. Thomas and St. Paul schools held their own parades like this one for more than 40 years. When the schools merged and became St. Vincent De Paul in 2008, they decided to continue the tradition.
