Kreole Primary Elementary students learn the importance of exercise breaks
Larry Calhoun, the star from the ‘Move to Learn’ exercise videos, popped into Kreole Primary Elementary today.
Students took an exercise break and got moving with Coach Calhoun. He makes exercise dance videos called ‘brain breaks’ that gets the classroom moving for five minutes so the students can get rid of any pent-up energy and be ready to focus.
Students were thrilled to meet and dance with Coach Calhoun.
Georgia Ricard teaches first graders and she can see a difference in her students after they ‘move to learn.’ “I use movement in my classroom every single day. We learn numbers, letters, sounds, and syllables in the classroom. They love it. They think it is so exciting. They’re six years old. They need to get that energy out so they can be the outstanding citizens they are.”
Coach Calhoun encourages movement in the classroom for students of all ages.
The Mississippi Health Students Act recommends that students get 150 minutes of movement a week.
