Kiwanis surprises Anniston Avenue Elementary School Running Club with new team apparel

One Gulfport Elementary School Running Club was rewarded for their hard work today with some new team apparel.

The Kiwanis Club of Gulfport surprised the Anniston Avenue Elementary Running Club with new Dri-Fit shirts to wear as they work toward their goal of running 26.2 miles by December.

Every day after school, the group of fifth graders rack up the miles running laps around the playground.

On December 11th, the club will participate in the one-mile Chevron Kids Marathon during which they will complete the last mile of their goal. Fifth grader Daphne Espinoza said, “I’ve always wanted to run and be able to accomplish my dream of running a mile and as everyone else did. It’s really amazing about how we started all of this thing and we have supporters and about this whole entire group thing– it’s really amazing how every single person here has a dream to accomplish and to run.”

AAE Running Club Coach Morgan Bond said, “I wanted to step up and start this for our school and really show them how to establish healthy habits.”

The AAE Running Club is just one of several elementary school running clubs on the Coast.
