Kiwanis Club of Gulfport Raising Money to Fight Neonatal Tetanus

Neonatal Tetanus is a disease that can quickly turn the joy of childbirth into a tragedy, a disease affecting many third world countries.

That’s why the Gulfport Kiwanis Club has been collecting new and gently used shoes for the past few months. Money raised from the shoe collection will be used to buy shots that will save the lives of many women and their unborn children. While the Kiwanis Club is working hard to reach their goal, they still need your help.

Kathy Burns, President of the Gulfport Kiwanis Club, says, "We kind of take things for granted here in the states, but in some countries, a child dies every nine minutes from Neonatal Tetanus, and so it’s our goal to eliminate that, so our group here in Gulfport, we chose a shoe drive to help us raise some money so we are asking everyone on the Gulf Coast to bring us new or gently used shoes, children or adults."

The club will be accepting donations until the end of the month. You can drop off shoes at the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center in Biloxi or at ABC Rental in Gulfport.
